PREPS DO NOT INTERACT!!!

So liek....wtf is my immortal nywey? (AN: if ur a poser DONUT RED FURTHER!!!)
Named after the song by evanescence, my immortal is a harry potter fanfiction created by tara gilesbie (also known by her fanfiction.net username, XXXBloodyRists666XXX) on march 3rd, 2006. The story follows a goth vampire witch named ebony dark'ness dementia raven way, an obvious self-insert of tara herself (as shown by the author occasionally slipping up and referring to her by her own name) as she makes her way through her 7th year at hogwarts and the many adventures that come with it; confusingly, the story somehow manages to be both light on plot and bursting with it at the same time.
The story has become very infamous even by non-harry potter fans due to it's barely readable grammar, poorly-written plot, multiple scenes of characters self-harming or having sex and the way tara takes a lot of canon HP characters and turns them into completely new characters, among others. If you want to check it out, i recommend strange æons' reading of the story or the archives of the story on the my immortal wiki.
Content warning: the story contains a laundry list of different sensitive topics. Specifically sex scenes (mostly between underage characters), self harm, pedophilia, negative mental health, ableist slurs, murder, cannibalism (if vampires doing what they do counts as that,) sexual harrassment, addiction, guns and probably others
Also, i just want to make it clear that this shrine is specifically dedicated to my immortal, not harry potter. I am aware that JK rowling is a transphobic asswipe and i'd like to clarify that i do not support her in any way

Mistriz
Part of my immortal's reputation online is due to the amount of mystery surrounding the story; as we have a name to the author, but we don't know who tara gilesbie really is.....or if "tara gilesbie" is even her real name! There have been multiple people over the years who have claimed to have written my immortal, but none of them have been definitively proven to be telling the truth. One notable one being a woman by the name of rose christo, who mentioned co-writing it in a memoir she wrote about her experiences as an indigenous child in the new york foster care system; allegedly, lawyers were involved to try and prove this as the case, in which rose supposedly provided proof via the email address used to create the fanfiction.net account the story was posted on as well as a flashdrive containing the first eleven chapters. However, the claim that she wrote the story has allegedly been proven false by multiple people and the real identity of my immortal's author remains a mystery.
Another mystery surrounding my immortal is whether or not the story was written with the intent of being taken seriously. Due to the amount of grammatical errors and typos, as well as the stereotypical and almost comical depiction of goth culture, the various author's notes, the obvious self inserting and the general attitude towards certain groups at the time (which included emos, fanfiction writers, harry potter fans and ESPECIALLY girls who were apart of said groups) many theorize that the story was written as a joke and that XXXBloodyRists666XXX was actually a troll account. There isn't really any solid evidence on either side, as there's multiple possible explanations for many of the things listed; for example: the poor grammar and spelling could be due to the common typing quirks in emo culture, maybe tara is dyslexic or maybe english isn't her first language (as many believe the "dubya" place tara is described as leaving in chapter 44's author's note is actually a misspelling of either dubai or the russian city of dubna) and the bastardization of goth/emo culture could be just because tara thought the aesthetic/subculture was cool but didn't know a lot about it and just wrote about her own misconceptions of it (believe me, i've been there) that said: we'll probably never know for sure unless we track tara gilesbie down and ask her.

ho i gut in2 teh strey (u may think im a poser, but im rly not)
I was obsessed with cringe culture when i was younger; i would watch youtube videos regarding the topic religiously, such as sans fangirl cringe compilations and solar sands' deviantart series, i'd draw stereotypical mary sue OCs for a quick laugh in my spare time....hell, my first written story was actually a parody fanfiction on quotev where my mary sue OC at the time (that i actually used), marylinn sue, marries robbie rotten from lazytown (this was back when the "we are number one" meme was still a thing) though i never finished it.
This is all relevant because i first heard about my immortal via an OC tutorial video, in which the OP used ebony as an example of what not to do when creating a character. Having never heard of the story before, i got curious and looked up "my immortal" on youtube; my search lead me to a dramatic reading of the series (complete with illustrations of what's going on in the story), i don't remember the name of whoever made it, but it was a very popular series, as screenshots of it are sometimes used on the my immortal wiki. My obsession grew from there.
While it was only a passing interest at first (i was like, 10 or 11 and just wanted to check it out for the lols) i ended up getting back into it at around age 14 when i remembered it existed and looked more into it, watching multiple videos about the mysteries surrounding the story and reading wiki articles like it was the bible (though it might as well be) over the years: i've drawn fanart, written a fanfiction (though it's debatable on whether it aged well or not) and even created a whole music playlist for the dumb lil fangfiction that was created when i was a LITERAL BABY.

Mi thotzz
As an emo kid at heart, i still love my immortal even after my cringe culture supporting phase has long since ended. Something about the poor writing is just so charming to me, and i've actually made a fan character for the indie horror game "little nightmares" by the name of myrtle smith who's inspired by ebony dark'ness dementia raven way!!!
Like i've said in my my nyan neko sugar girls shrine, i feel as though there's a lack of sincerity on the internet. Everything has to be treated as a joke and half the time you're not allowed to express genuine feelings or ACTUALLY enjoy things without someone calling you cringe (one admittedly extreme example being some jackass who peaked in highschool recording themself going to an anime convention just to make a complete ass of themself and harrass attendees for laughs, which is unfortunately more common than you think) i understand that after the lockdown ended, many people lost the ability to socialize...not to mention that times are tough right now so joking around might be the only way to cope. But treating EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING as a joke is both bad for you and everyone around (aka YOU'RE FUCKING ANNOYING) so basically what i'm saying is to learn to appreciate the smaller things in life. You don't NEED to be the class clown 24/7. If i can unironically appreciate shit like nyan neko sugar girls and my immortal, so can you.
That said, i'm not against being a little silly sometimes, there IS such a thing as taking everything WAY TOO seriously too. For example: i've seen SO MANY people take my immortal really seriously for no reason, writing paragraphs upon paragraphs about how much it sucks and how it's the worst piece of literature anyone's ever written and like....bro, IT'S A HARRY POTTER FANFICTION WRITTEN BY SOME RANDOM TEENAGER IN THE MID 2000'S!!! LIGHTEN UP!! And honestly, to a point, i get it. I used to be this way too, as mentioned before, i was obsessed with cringe culture and would be way too hateful because i thought it was the "right" thing to do; i used to watch a lot of movie reviewers that called every single movie they reviewed "the worst one ever" and let them control my opinions. I only really changed my ways when i stopped to ask myself "is it really worth it to be upset over this?" So i implore you to ask yourself the same.

While yes, i am aware that internet historian's version of my immortal is arguably the most popular version of the story, i must make it clear that i will not be including it here due to it being found out via HBomberGuy's video on plagiarism that internet historian is both an alt right weirdo and a plagiarist, and as such, i am not comfortable endorsing any of his work.
